Hub-Hopping in First Class: A Thrilling Adventure Through America’s Major Airports with United Airlines (Copy)

There's something uniquely exciting about airport terminals. They’re the gateways to new adventures, each bustling with travelers, stories, and endless possibilities. But when you’re flying First Class with United Airlines, airports become part of the journey’s magic. From Austin to Chicago, with stops in Houston, Denver, Washington D.C., and Newark, I experienced the best of air travel—from the luxurious United Clubs to the spacious comfort of seat A1 on every flight. Here’s a recap of my unforgettable hub-hopping adventure, complete with details about each aircraft type I flew on.

AUSTIN BERGSTROM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (AUS) AUSTIN, TX

1. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

My adventure started bright and early at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), a charming airport that always feels like home. While AUS doesn’t feature a United Club, the Amex Centurion Lounge offers a great spot for breakfast with stunning views of the runway. The live music, local Texan charm, and food options make this airport a welcoming departure point.

I boarded UA1966 at 5:00 AM in seat A1, bound for Houston (IAH). The flight was aboard a Boeing 737-800, a reliable workhorse in the United Airlines fleet. The 737-800 is known for its efficiency, comfortable seating, and quiet cabin, making for a smooth ride. The spacious First Class seats, offering ample legroom and a recliner, made the short flight even more enjoyable. By 5:59 AM, I was on my way to Houston, sipping my coffee as we soared through the sky.

2. George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Denver International Airport (DEN)

GEORGE BUSH INTERCONTINENTAL AIRPORT (IAH) HOUSTON, TX

Arriving at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), I was greeted by one of the largest, busiest, and most impressive airports in the U.S. IAH’s United Club in Terminal E provided a welcome retreat from the hustle of the terminal. The lounge’s spacious seating, complimentary snacks, and quiet atmosphere made it the perfect spot to recharge before the next flight.

UNITED CLUB AT IAH

Next up: I boarded UA2433 to Denver (DEN) aboard a Boeing 757-300. This aircraft is renowned for its extended fuselage, offering even more legroom in First Class. The 757-300 has a 3-3 seating configuration in economy, but in First Class, it’s a different story. With only 16 seats, the service is personalized, and the extra space makes it feel like you're gliding through the skies. The premium service, excellent meals, and views of the mountains as we approached Denver made the flight a memorable one.

Once in Denver, DEN's unique peaked roof and vast land area make it a striking airport. The United Club in Concourse B offered a quiet, cozy space with a view of the mountains. During my layover, I had a chance to wander around and explore the airport’s renowned art installations. For those with a bit of time, the outdoor deck offers fresh mountain air, and the Blue Mustang sculpture outside is a must-see.

3. Denver International Airport (DEN) to Washington D.C. (IAD)

Next, I flew from DEN to Washington D.C. (IAD) aboard UA798, a long-haul flight on a Boeing 777-200. This aircraft is one of the crown jewels of United’s fleet. With its large cabin, it features lay-flat seats in First Class, making it perfect for longer trips. As soon as I reclined in seat A1, I was treated to exquisite service, with high-end dining options, a full beverage menu, and plenty of space to stretch out. The 777-200 is known for its impressive range and comfort, and this flight was no different.

Upon arriving at Dulles International Airport (IAD), I found the spacious terminals and modern architecture a pleasant change from the hustle of previous airports. The United Club in Concourse C offered a quiet oasis with snacks, drinks, and a comfortable space to unwind. IAD is also known for being a major international hub, and with the opportunity to enjoy several food options, I grabbed a quick bite before heading to my next flight.

4. Washington D.C. (IAD) to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)

Next up: Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). Known for being one of the busiest airports in the world, ORD hums with energy and excitement. Whether you’re grabbing a bite in one of its many food courts, shopping for last-minute souvenirs, or watching planes take off, O'Hare is always full of life. The United Club in Terminal 1 was my sanctuary—a place to relax, grab a snack, and unwind in luxury before my next flight. It provided complimentary snacks, drinks, and a calm environment to enjoy before heading out.

I boarded my flight, UA798 from IAD to ORD, which was smooth, and as always, seat A1 made for an incredible experience. The Boeing 777-200 made the trip even more luxurious, with its spacious First Class cabins, enhanced by personalized service and top-tier meals.

Once I arrived in Chicago, I ventured out to grab a quick bite at Big Bowl, an Asian-inspired restaurant located in O'Hare's Terminal 2. If you’re looking for a delicious and healthy option, this spot is a great choice. The vibrant food courts and the energetic atmosphere of O'Hare make it an airport that always feels alive with possibilities.

5. Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)

After a short stop in Chicago, it was time to head to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), one of the oldest airports in the U.S. and a cornerstone for flights arriving from Europe and international locations. The United Club at EWR offers a perfect escape, with quiet spaces to relax, a full range of snacks, and premium drinks.

The flight from ORD to EWR was aboard a Boeing 757-200, a classic aircraft that balances comfort and efficiency. The 757-200 is known for its wide-body configuration, offering a spacious First Class cabin with plush seating and excellent service. On this short flight, I made the most of the recliner to catch up on a few hours of rest.

EWR’s proximity to New York City means it’s a hub of travelers from around the world, and as I walked through the terminal, I couldn’t help but appreciate the energy of this international airport. The First Class amenities at Newark were stellar—high-end shopping, luxurious lounges, and a quiet atmosphere made it easy to wait for my final flight back to Texas.

6. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)

Finally, my last flight of the day—UA1261—took me from **EWR to Austin. As always, United Airlines ensured that my First Class experience was flawless, with luxurious seating and exceptional service. I settled into seat A1 and prepared for the final leg of my adventure. The flight was aboard a Boeing 737 MAX 9, the newest and most advanced of United’s 737 fleet. The MAX 9 features quieter engines, improved fuel efficiency, and an even smoother ride, making it the perfect aircraft for the last leg of my trip.

From top-tier meals to smooth service, the flight back to Austin was the perfect end to a whirlwind day. Once back at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, I had a moment to reflect on how much I had experienced over the course of my journey. Austin’s laid-back vibe makes it a perfect homecoming, with its live music and welcoming atmosphere. I can’t think of a better place to end this exciting, luxury-filled adventure.

Conclusion: The Ultimate Hub-Hopping Experience

From the United Clubs in Houston, Denver, and Chicago to the luxurious seat A1 on every flight, this journey was a first-class experience from start to finish. Each aircraft, from the Boeing 737-800 to the Boeing 777-200, offered unparalleled comfort, and the service was nothing short of exceptional. Every airport had its own unique charm, and the lounges provided the perfect place to relax and recharge. If you ever find yourself hopping between major U.S. hubs, especially in First Class with United Airlines, I can’t recommend it enough. The combination of luxury, convenience, and the excitement of visiting new cities is a travel experience unlike any other.

A Magical 3-4 Day Family Adventure at Walt Disney World

The Lewis family— Raylene, Kyle, and their three kids, Kyler (10), Kaden (7) Rylan (6)—had been dreaming of their first trip to Walt Disney World for years. After months of planning, they were finally ready for their magical adventure in Orlando, Florida!

The Journey Begins: Booking Flights & Choosing a Hotel

Excitement buzzed through their home as they searched for flights. Raylene, the planner of the family, used Google Flights and Hopper to find the best deals. Booking three months ahead, she snagged affordable tickets to Orlando International Airport (MCO).

Once flights were settled, the next big decision was where to stay. The kids wanted to be surrounded by Disney magic 24/7, so they debated between a Disney Resort or a nearby hotel.

Choosing the Right Disney Hotel

Disney hotels come in three categories: Value, Moderate, and Deluxe, each offering different experiences and price ranges.

Value Resorts ($150-$300 per night)

  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort – Perfect for families, featuring themed rooms from The Lion King, Cars, and Finding Nemo.

Disney.com

  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort – A fun, retro-themed hotel with access to the Skyliner.

Disney.com

  • All-Star Movies Resort – A budget-friendly option with Disney character décor and pools.

Moderate Resorts ($300-$500 per night)

  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort – Tropical vibes with a relaxing atmosphere and Skyliner access.

  • Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside – A charming Southern-style resort with boat access to Disney Springs.

  • Coronado Springs Resort – Offers a mix of luxury and affordability with a great dining scene.

Deluxe Resorts ($500-$1,000+ per night)

  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa – The ultimate luxury experience, steps from Magic Kingdom.

  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort – A tropical paradise with great dining and monorail access.

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Offers stunning views of exotic animals right outside your balcony.

For this trip, they chose Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, where larger-than-life characters from Cars and The Lion King would greet them each morning. Plus, the Skyliner would make getting to the parks easy!

Getting Around Disney: In-Park Transportation

One of the biggest perks of staying at a Disney Resort is access to the complimentary transportation system. The Lewis family planned their routes carefully to make the most of their time.

Transportation Options:

  • Disney Skyliner – A gondola system connecting select resorts to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Quick and scenic!

  • Monorail – Offers easy access between Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and select Deluxe Resorts.

  • Buses – Run continuously between resorts and all four theme parks.

  • Boats – Provide a relaxing way to travel to Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs.

  • Walking Paths – Some resorts, like the BoardWalk, offer walking access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

With these options, getting from park to park was a breeze, making their trip stress-free and enjoyable.

The Best Time to Visit & Avoiding the Crowds

Emily knew the best way to enjoy Disney was to avoid the massive holiday crowds. They decided to visit in mid-September, right after school started, when crowds were lighter and prices were lower. The most expensive times—Christmas, Spring Break, and summer—were definitely out of the question!

Best Time to Bring Kids to Disney

For parents wondering when to bring their kids, the ideal times are:

  • Mid-January to mid-February – Low crowds and cooler weather make for a more relaxed experience.

  • Late April to early May – Before schools let out, the parks are less crowded, and the weather is still pleasant.

  • Mid-September to mid-November – Lower wait times and fun seasonal events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Avoid peak times like summer, Christmas, and Spring Break, when long lines and higher prices can make the trip more stressful for families with young children.

Day 1: Magic Kingdom – The Heart of Disney

As the family entered Magic Kingdom, Kadens eyes widened at the sight of Cinderella Castle, while Rylan pointed excitedly at the Mickey balloons floating above Main Street, U.S.A.

“First stop, Peter Pan’s Flight!” Kyle announced, having booked their Genie+ selections in advance.

Throughout the day, they rode Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, and Space Mountain. They also took a break at Casey’s Corner for some classic hot dogs before meeting Mickey at Town Square Theater.

As night fell, they grabbed a perfect viewing spot for Happily Ever After, the fireworks spectacular over the castle. Rylan snuggled in Raylene’s arms, completely mesmerized by the twinkling lights.

Day 2: EPCOT – A Journey Around the World

After a hearty breakfast, the family hopped onto the Skyliner and glided into EPCOT. First stop: Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France Pavilion, where they shrank down to the size of a rat.

The family explored World Showcase, sampling snacks like pretzels from Germany and churros from Mexico. Raylene and Kyle enjoyed an afternoon break with frozen margaritas, while the kids had Mickey ice cream bars.

As they continued their journey, Raylene and Kyle decided to fully embrace the famous “Drinking Around the World” experience. They sipped on a La Vie en Rose Slush in France, a refreshing Tipsy Ducks in Love in China, and a traditional Maelstrom Margarita in Norway. To accompany their drinks, they indulged in delicious bites such as Bratwurst in Germany, Beef Tataki in Japan, and Tacos de Barbacoa in Mexico. The variety of flavors made it an unforgettable culinary adventure, while the kids enjoyed exploring each country’s unique attractions.

Their evening ended with the dazzling show Luminous: The Symphony of Us, filling the sky with lights and music.

Day 3: Hollywood Studios – A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Kyler could barely contain his excitement as they entered Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The family piloted the Millennium Falcon and built their own lightsabers at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.

Kaden loved Toy Story Mania!, and they all laughed through the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway adventure. They also took on thrilling rides like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. Lunch at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater was a hit, as they ate burgers in a retro car under a starlit “sky.”

They capped off the day with Fantasmic!, where Mickey battled Disney villains in a breathtaking water-and-fire show.

Day 4: Animal Kingdom – A Wild Adventure

Their last day started with an early morning safari at Kilimanjaro Safaris, where giraffes and elephants roamed freely. They marveled at Expedition Everest, though Raylene and Rylan opted for the milder Na’vi River Journey instead.

They also took on the thrilling Avatar Flight of Passage, soaring through Pandora on a breathtaking banshee ride. Kaden, Kyler and Kyle enjoyed the exhilarating white-water adventure of Kali River Rapids, while Rylan had fun on TriceraTop Spin in DinoLand U.S.A.

UNTIL NEXT TIME

As their magical trip came to an end, Kyle and Raylene watched the kids fall asleep on the flight home, still clutching their new Disney treasures. The trip had been everything they had hoped for—adventure, wonder, and unforgettable memories.

And as Raylene whispered, “We’ll be back,” Kyle just smiled. Because at Disney, the magic never truly ends.
